WSP is seeking a Renewable Energy Electrical Engineering Assistant Vice President for our Irvine, CA office. The following locations will also be considered: Los Angeles, CA, Riverside, CA . This opportunity involves being part of our experienced Renewables team in the West.

This Opportunity

Provides high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of commercial and industrial scale projects in the public and private sector. Tasks include research, design, concept development, planning, and detailed design for renewable energy facilities (solar photovoltaics, BESS, microgrids), power distribution, regulation, and protection/control systems across various contexts (utilities, transportation, buildings, government projects). Develops electrical models and reports for detailed electrical design of project sizes for the commercial industry (multifamily, mixed-use, education). Ensures responsibilities meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Provide guidance on data related to renewable energy components, procurement specifications, detailed design reviews, and standards compliance.
  • Review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for less complex projects, ensuring compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Apply electrical engineering techniques to improve infrastructure project phases from concept to operation.
  • Perform complex electrical engineering tasks including single line diagrams, schematics, grounding, and protection systems design.
  • Plan for future-ready techniques, equipment sizing, cabling, and safety considerations.
  • Review electrical calculations, load analysis, short circuit studies, and protection coordination.
  • Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety, and phasing plans, coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Manage electrical infrastructure projects from inception to completion, including design, construction, and compliance documentation.
  • Oversee cross-functional teams and monitor project budgets, schedules, and quality.
  • Prepare data visualizations, reports, and presentations for complex data and analyses.
  • Maintain high quality and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Guide and train entry-level engineers in electrical modeling and simulations.
  • Analyze field investigation data and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Collaborate on federal, state, and local projects and business development.
  • Stay current with electrical engineering practices.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and company policies.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in power generation and distribution projects.
  • Engineer license preferred.
  • Proficiency in electrical engineering principles, design, and permitting.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design and renewable energy systems.
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure planning, design, and management.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Strong technical calculation and plan review skills.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and investigations.
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and guide junior staff, maintaining QA/QC standards.
  • Proficiency with design software such as Helioscope, PVsystem, EnergyToolbase, BIM360, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience coordinating with subcontractors and teams to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and company policies.
  • Flexibility to work beyond regular hours and travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Engineering.
  • NABCEP certification.
  • Experience managing large, multidisciplinary projects.
