Associate Director, Student Disability Services

Student & Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Student Disability Services (SDS) works in partnership with Cornell faculty, staff, and students to ensure that all aspects of student life are accessible, equitable, and inclusive of individuals with disabilities. SDS establishes and disseminates criteria for disability services, meets with students to discuss access needs, receives and stores confidential disability documentation to support a student's eligibility for disability services and accommodations, collaborates with faculty and staff regarding essential course and/or program requirements and appropriate reasonable accommodations. SDS provides campus leadership of diversity efforts that promote disability equity and inclusion.

The Associate Director for Student Disability Services leads, manages and facilitates the accommodation determination process for Cornell University, serving undergraduate, graduate, and professional students across the Ithaca and Cornell Tech campuses, as well as the Executive MBA program. This role provides leadership and supervision to the team responsible for evaluating and communicating accommodations decisions, overseeing the development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of the processes and practices of the office. The Associate Director makes decisions regarding office policy and procedures, and receives and responds to grievance submissions.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, social work or other related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in determining and facilitating access accommodations on post-secondary educational setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal (ADA) and state (NY Human Rights Law) regulations that provide legal framework for disability services for students.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direct day-to-day supervision of employees.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, flexibility, and ability to work under pressure in a variety of cultural contexts.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs, such as Microsoft Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead team and oversee departmental mission and related-policy changes.
  • 5 or more years of experience in determining and facilitating access accommodations in a post-secondary setting
  • Knowledge of Cornell programs and services
