WHAT YOU'LL DO
DES is seeking an innovative, design-oriented Landscape Architect/Designer to shape the future of our Landscape Architecture team. You will be a vital member of an integrated project team, contributing across the full project lifecycle—including Concept Design, Entitlements, Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), working drawings, permitting, and Construction Administration. Our landscape team collaborates closely with architects, engineers, lighting designers, irrigation designers, artists, arborists, and permitting agencies. This role requires teamwork, communication, and a shared passion for design excellence.
Collaborate with the Director of Landscape Architecture and architectural staff during Concept Design to develop innovative open space ideas.
Execute detailed landscape designs, including models, presentation drawings, and renderings, translating big ideas into site-specific drawings suitable for permitting and construction.
Mentor and inspire team members through a passion for innovation and creativity.
Engage in creative thinking and problem-solving through inclusive discussions with project teams.
Lead design development and construction documentation phases.
Develop landscape project task lists and drawing schedules during proposal phases.
Coordinate with all site disciplines, including arborists, irrigation specialists, architects, civil engineers, and MEP teams.
Manage multiple projects, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
Review documents regularly for accuracy and completeness.
Support project managers and actively promote a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a landscape architect.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
California Landscape Architecture license.
Knowledge of California native and drought-tolerant plants; Texas plant knowledge is a plus.
Understanding of irrigation design and WELO requirements for city permitting.
Strong grasp of contemporary design trends and development processes.
Extensive knowledge of technical construction documentation.
Experience across all design phases, from concept to construction administration.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp; Revit knowledge is a plus.
Hand sketching skills are advantageous.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and team orientation.
Experience with both public and private projects.
Ability to manage relationships with clients, consultants, and internal teams from concept through construction.
Hybrid work environment with onsite work in Redwood City or San Francisco on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
The typical salary range is $90,000 - $110,000, depending on skills, experience, education, and location.
