FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
The incumbent of this position acts as Law Enforcement Officer in the Campus Police Department and is responsible for the pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators.
One year of law enforcement experience (sworn or non-sworn).
Two years of public contact experience or 2 years of active and continuous military service can substitute for the required experience.
College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required sworn law enforcement experience.
In addition to the above requirements, Florida Statute 943 requires that any person employed in this class must:
(1) Be at least 19 years of age.
(2) Be a citizen of the United States, notwithstanding any laws of the State to the contrary.
(3) Be a high school graduate or its “equivalent” as the term may be determined by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission of the Department of Law Enforcement.
(4) Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
(5) Have his or her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency.
(6) Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the Commission.
(7) Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Commission. (8) Possess a current certificate of compliance for basic employment certification issued by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire .
Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills .
Hiring Salary Range Hiring Salary: 12-month position, $55,875.68 - $63,375.68 annually. Additional compensation is granted based on verified experience and education*
Associate Degree $1500.00
Bachelor Degree $3000.00
Master Degree $4500.00
Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) $150.00 per year
Hours Tuesday – Saturday 2:00pm to 10:00pm

Condition of employment
