Richmond State Hospital is about the people we serve and the community relationships we have developed dating back to 1890. Richmond State Hospital is a public behavioral health facility operated by the state of Indiana and one of six state psychiatric hospitals within the Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction. As part of a newly integrated system of state psychiatric hospitals, we serve consumers across the state as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services.


Nestled in northwestern Richmond, our beautiful campus provides a quiet and peaceful environment. Richmond State Hospital offers individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, chaplain services, family therapy and education, group psych-education, rehabilitation therapies, and patient employment opportunities. Unit-based programming is augmented with campus-wide specialty groups. RSH has been a state leader in evidenced-based medication prescribing to both reduce the risks associated with polypharmacy and optimize clinical outcomes. The hospital clinical and medical leadership collaborate with the unit treatment teams to provide the most contemporary and comprehensive care possible.


Salary Statement
:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,512.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.


A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Prepare and order medication according to physician orders and nursing staff requests.
  • Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Ensure medication security during delivery and restocking of medications on nursing units.
  • Ensure efficient inventory management, including procurement and the processing of invoices.
  • Perform monthly inspections of medication storage areas.
  • Verify medication package contains the proper information.
  • Perform electronic adjudication of prescriptions claims.
  • Assist staff by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Must have a current Pharmacy Technician license issued by State of Indiana or be enrolled in a technician training program and possess a technician-in-training permit.
  • Knowledge of state and federal law, guidelines, and regulations of pharmaceuticals.
  • Ability to use and knowledge of the computerized pharmacy medication ordering system and the automated medication dispensing systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, medications, and dosage measurements.
  • Ability to use various equipment including computers and pharmaceutical repackaging equipment.
  • Ability to maintain records and responsibility for controlled substances.
  • Ability to ensure inventory control of drugs and supplies.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

  • Must maintain continuing education requirements for Pharmacist Technician License.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
