Our remote teaching model has proven highly effective in delivering consistent, high-quality instruction to students with visual impairments while offering teachers flexible, meaningful career opportunities.

Role Description

This Teacher of the Visually Impaired position focuses on delivering comprehensive educational support to students with visual impairments through our established virtual learning framework. You'll manage a caseload of 45-60 students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade, providing approximately 36 hours of weekly instruction and support services.

Your work will center on teaching fundamental skills including braille reading and writing, spatial concepts and orientation techniques, assistive technology applications, and academic compensation strategies. The position requires developing individualized lesson plans that address each student's specific visual needs while maintaining engagement through creative virtual instruction methods.

Primary Duties

As a visual impairment specialist, you'll conduct comprehensive assessments to determine students' instructional needs, create and implement specialized curricula, and monitor student progress through data collection and analysis. Your responsibilities include teaching braille literacy skills, instructing students in the use of assistive devices and software, and providing consultation services to classroom teachers and families.

You'll facilitate virtual parent training sessions, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, develop accessible educational materials, and maintain detailed records of student achievements and challenges. The role also involves staying current with best practices in visual impairment education and incorporating innovative teaching strategies into your virtual instruction.

A minimum of 2 years of direct experience providing educational services to students with visual impairments in school environments is required.

Essential qualifications include demonstrated competency in braille instruction (Grades 1 and 2, Nemeth Code), experience with various assistive technologies including screen readers and magnification devices, and proven ability to conduct functional vision assessments. Virtual teaching experience and strong computer skills are necessary for effective remote service delivery.
