The RN - Lead Lactation Consultant - Ambulatory is a certified professional responsible for development of an ambulatory lactation program for St. Charles Health System (SCHS) in addition to providing direct breastfeeding education, counseling, and support to mothers and families in a medical office setting. This role involves assessing, planning, and providing lactation services to ensure a positive breastfeeding experience and successful outcomes for mother and baby. The Lactation Consultant collaborates with medical staff to integrate breastfeeding education into patient care plans. Additionally, the lactation consultant performs newborn hearing tests and provides this information to the baby’s primary care provider (PCP). This role does not directly manage other caregivers but may be asked to provide feedback on the work of others. Key responsibilities include providing one-on-one breastfeeding counseling and support, conducting pre- and postnatal consultations, assisting with breastfeeding equipment, assessing breastfeeding process and creating individualized care plans, monitoring infant growth and maternal health, educating families about breastfeeding, delivering group classes, working on program development and evaluating regional needs, collaborating with healthcare professionals, documenting patient care in EMR, communicating with community resources, staying updated on breastfeeding practices, providing training to medical staff, performing newborn hearing tests, maintaining nursing knowledge and skills, administering medications, ensuring safety, supporting quality improvement, participating in professional growth, effective communication, problem solving, creating a healing environment, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality, delivering customer service, supporting organizational vision and values, and supporting Lean principles. Education required includes licensure/certification with preferred Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Licensure required includes current Oregon RN license, AHA Basic Life Support certification, Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), and Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC within 6 months of hire). Experience required is one year recent experience of mother/baby dyad care or Lactation Consultant experience and newborn hearing screening experience. The position is part-time with 24 weekly hours, Monday-Friday, first shift 8:00-17:00.
