Join a mission-driven team in the General Counsel's Office of the Executive Office with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) in a position that exists to provide MDH with legal expertise to support the Department's work.
Working as a Senior Associate General Counsel, you will:
- Serve as the Minnesota Department of Health's lead attorney in one or more assigned practice areas and lead legal advisor for one or more Department divisions and offices. Lead practice areas are litigation management; data practices and privacy; administrative cases; rulemaking; human resources and employee ethics; emergency preparedness and response; contracts and grants.
- Provide legal research and advice on agencywide and division-specific issues.
- Collaborate with other General Counsel's Office attorneys and Department staff.
- Assist with development and implementation of Department legal policies and best practices.
- Perform analysis on diverse and complex matters.
- Produce written products for a variety of audiences and purposes.
This position with have the option of teleworking; however, it will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending months and year for each job held.
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school.
- License in good standing from Minnesota or another state with the ability to be admitted to Minnesota without examination within six months of hire.
- Current with continuing legal education requirements.
- Four (4) years of experience working as a licensed attorney, practicing in Minnesota. This work experience must include the following: conducting legal research, writing, and analysis (judicial clerkship experience will count toward this criteria).
- Previous experience providing legal advice, litigation, or support in one or more of the lead practice areas: litigation management, data practices and privacy, rulemaking, human resources, emergency preparedness and response, contracts and grants, and administrative cases (i.e., contested cases and fair hearing). Previous experience in activities specific to public health will also be considered.
Minimum qualification to be assessed during the interview process: - Demonstrated organizational skills sufficient to organize facts and apply legal principles and pertinent statutes.
- Human relation skills sufficient to understand, develop, persuade, motivate, collaborate with and lead others.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience handling issues related to state and federal laws especially as they may relate to MDH programs and services.
- Experience working in or with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office and/or State or Federal Government agencies.
