$80,000.00/yr - $85,000.00/yr

We provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty. We seek justice through community organizing and public advocacy. Mandate

Coordinates and aligns mission-driven communications strategically with fundraising campaigns, engaging diverse audiences with the mission of Bread for the City (BFC), including ownership of team-wide communications strategy.

Position Profile

The Communications & Engagement Manager is responsible for the design and implementation of organization-wide strategic communications, with a focus on high-level coordination between communications and fundraising messaging, ensuring a continuity of branding across channels and messaging vehicles. They oversee communications and events, including marketing and advertising, media relations, web management, messaging development, story collection, content creation, graphic design and print materials, brand awareness, the annual gala, other special events, and community engagement. Supervisor to the Communications and Community Partnerships Manager. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

Communications

  • Develop and implement omni-channel communications and marketing strategy in coordination with internal and external partners for a seamless and unified customer experience across all channels–digital and print.
  • Create and manage the production of digital and print content and materials across channels, including but not limited to, organizational and program messaging and statements, fundraising campaigns and proposals, annual reports, event marketing materials, newsletters, and merchandise.
  • Generate and craft content for social media including videos and graphics.
  • Oversee and manage content on BFC’s Wordpress website.
  • Manage the relationship and work of BFC’s design and web management consultants to ensure quality products include graphic design and website updates.
  • Develop and own local and national media relationships and plan, coordinate, and manage media coverage and media opportunities.
  • Support and train BFC staff members, board members, and clients for effective media relations, events, and campaigns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Engagement

  • Project manager for the planning and execution of BFC’s annual gala, in coordination with the full team and external partners.
  • Oversee the planning of BFC’s annual Juneteenth event, managed by the Communications and Community Partnerships Manager.
  • Oversee the planning of BFC’s annual Harvest Fest volunteer event, managed by the Communications and Community Partnerships Manager.
  • Support fundraisers with smaller donor engagement events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years in a communications and/or events-related field required, with specific expertise in communications and special events preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface effectively both externally and internally through superior interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise and experience in organizational communications and public relations.
  • Experience with social media and digital marketing strategy.
  • Skilled in interviewing and writing articles on sensitive topics.
  • Campaign, marketing, and graphic design experience appreciated.
  • Advanced ability to write and edit diverse types of communications, including but not limited to, blogs, social media posts, text messages, news-style articles, press releases, donor-facing appeals, and web content.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-orientated environment as well as possess the self-motivation necessary to work and execute goals independently.
  • Experience with philanthropic communities and interests in the greater Washington, DC region appreciated.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, HubSpot, Hootsuite, Tatango, and GoFundMe Pro (formerly Classy).
  • Passion and interest in the mission of Bread for the City and dedication to promoting its priorities.
