High school juniors and seniors at St. Mary's Southside Catholic High School are invited to apply for one of our trade occupation youth apprentice roles in the greater St. Louis area.

Options include Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC. Apprentices will work at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton.

These are part-time, paid positions designed to prepare you to launch a full-time career in the trades upon graduation. A commitment to pursuing one of these fields along with access to reliable transportation are required.

Job Summary:

Gain skills related to the use of construction safety, drawings, blueprints, materials, tools, and general worksite procedures.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Assists with basic equipment problem identification and diagnosis for heating and cooling systems. 
  • Assists with basic equipment repair for air conditioning systems including addressing operational problems and performing preventative maintenance 
  • Assists with setup and fabrication of metals and installation of fabricated parts 
  • Reads and interprets construction drawings and plans including symbols and procedures. 
  • Contributes to a job task plan through the setup and preparation of tools and equipment. 
  • Prepares work area for construction while following all job site safety and security rules. 
  • Uses hand, light duty, and power tools using proper safety protocols, and personal protective equipment (PPE). 
  • Loads and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. 
  • Performs construction measurements and estimate resources, materials, and supplies needed. 
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area while working as a member of a construction team. 
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION  

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and currently enrolled in High School or 18 years of age with a High School diploma/GED

  • No experience required

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Rare use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Rare driving.
