Position Title: Volunteer Communications & Outreach Coordinator

Organization: FOCUS – Focus On Communities United for Success, Inc.

Location: 100% Remote

Time Commitment: 10–15 hours/week

Reports To: FOCUS Leadership Team

Compensation: Volunteer (with potential for paid opportunities or stipends)

FOCUS is building a new model of generational wealth by training and empowering underserved communities through IT certifications, entrepreneurship, cooperative housing, and investment. We help people move from survival to ownership.

We’re looking for a hands-on, tech-savvy, outreach-loving communicator to join our team. As our Volunteer Communications & Outreach Coordinator , you'll take the lead in managing our brand voice online , creating engaging content , and doing direct outreach to students, partners, and community members to spread the word about our programs and impact.

You’re a fit if you can write clean copy, build flyers in Canva, Mailchimp, schedule posts, DM folks about our events, and jump on a call to tell someone why FOCUS matters. You’re not just thinking — you’re doing.

• Draft and schedule posts across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter/X, and YouTube
• Create content (graphics, captions, videos, etc.) using Canva or similar tools
• Maintain a weekly content calendar and promote campaigns and success stories
• Keep the FOCUS brand consistent and visible across all channels

• DM, email, and call prospective students, partners, or donors to invite them to events or programs
• Follow up with leads from community events, sign-up forms, and social campaigns
• Help grow our contact list and support grassroots recruitment and engagement
• Represent FOCUS in virtual community meetings or info sessions when needed

• Draft and send monthly email updates or newsletters using Mailchimp (or help us get set up)
• Help write blurbs and thank-you messages for donors, students, and partners
• Track engagement metrics and help us adjust our messaging for better results

• Love making connections and telling powerful stories
• Are comfortable on social media and know how to create basic digital content
• Are proactive and organized — someone who finishes what they start
• Believe in community wealth, equity, and opportunity for all
• Want to grow your portfolio and work on something with real meaning

• Experience with email platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
• Graphic design, video editing, or photography skills
• Familiarity with community development or nonprofit outreach

• Build your personal brand and professional portfolio
• Get recognized for your contributions on our website and social platforms
• Receive references, recommendation letters, and access to insider opportunities
• Be part of a team creating real change in Baltimore and beyond
