Job Summary:

The Weld Technician is responsible for supporting and improving welding processes in an automotive manufacturing environment. This role involves troubleshooting weld equipment, ensuring weld quality, performing maintenance, and assisting in process optimization to enhance production efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up, program, and troubleshoot robotic and manual welding systems (MIG, TIG, resistance welding, etc.).
• Monitor weld quality and integrity, ensuring compliance with engineering and industry standards.
• Identify and resolve welding defects such as porosity, spatter, cracks, and incomplete fusion.
• Assist in weld fixture setup and adjustments to maintain proper part positioning and alignment.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve welding processes and resolve production issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance on welding equipment to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and GD&T specifications to ensure precise welding operations.
• Conduct weld inspections and testing using visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
• Train operators and production staff on proper welding procedures, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
• Maintain documentation of weld parameters, process changes, and quality reports for traceability.
• Follow all OSHA safety regulations, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree or certification in welding technology, robotics, or industrial maintenance is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in robotic or manual welding within an automotive or industrial manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, resistance welding, spot welding, etc.).
• Experience with robotic welding systems (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman) is highly desirable.
• Understanding of welding metallurgy, materials, and heat effects on metals.
• Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, GD&T, and technical specifications.
• Hands-on experience with weld inspection methods and troubleshooting techniques.
• Familiarity with PLC systems, automation controls, and robotic programming is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.

Work Environment:

• Automotive manufacturing plant with exposure to welding fumes, sparks, noise, heat, and heavy machinery.
• Required to wear PPE such as welding helmets, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
• Shift work, overtime, and weekend availability may be required based on production schedules.
