Position Overview
The Student Ministry Pastor is responsible for overseeing the spiritual development, discipleship, and engagement of middle and high school students (grades 6-12) at Northside. This role includes leading a dynamic, growing student ministry that engages students, helps them grow in their relationship with Christ, and prepares them for a life of purpose and service. The Student Ministry Pastor will lead a team of staff and volunteers, develop relevant teaching, and create a safe and supportive environment for students to grow spiritually, relationally, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Spiritual Leadership and Discipleship
- Lead the ministry with a focus on developing students spiritual maturity and fostering a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Design and implement a discipleship strategy that incorporates Bible teaching, volunteer led small groups, worship, and serving.
- Create engaging, age-appropriate teaching that addresses the unique challenges and spiritual needs of middle and high school students.
- Ministry Development and Programming
- Develop and oversee weekly student ministry programming, including Sunday evening services and special events.
- Plan and implement special events for students such as retreats, camps, mission trips, and outreach activities that foster spiritual growth and build community, collaborating with other ministry teams for support.
- Ensure all programs are aligned with Northsides mission and vision and designed to support the holistic development of students.
- Student Outreach and Evangelism
- Create and implement strategies to reach unchurched and disengaged students, welcoming them into the ministry and providing a space for them to encounter God.
- Encourage students to share their faith with their peers, equipping them to live out the gospel and reach their friends with the message of Christ.
- Parent Engagement and Support
- Partner with parents to provide resources, communication, and support for their role in discipling their students.
- Develop a strong communication system to keep parents informed about upcoming events, ministry goals, and ways they can engage with and support their students spiritual growth.
- Mentorship and Care
- Build strong relationships with students, providing mentorship, and support for their personal and spiritual growth.
- Create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable seeking guidance on issues related to faith, relationships, school, and personal challenges.
- Address the spiritual, emotional, and social needs of students, providing pastoral care and direction as needed.
- Collaboration with Other Ministries
- Work closely with other ministry leaders to ensure alignment and integration across all age groups and ministry areas.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to integrate student ministry into the overall church vision and ensure students are connected to the broader church community.
- Administration and Reporting
- Manage student ministry databases, event registration systems, and communication channels.
- Regularly report on the growth, engagement, and impact of the student ministry to the senior leadership team.
- Track key metrics (e.g., attendance, new students, decision-making, involvement in Next Steps, etc.) and assess the effectiveness of programming to make data-driven improvements.
Education / Experience
- 5-7 years of related experience or education is preferred.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience in a large church or mega church setting.
- Bachelors Degree in related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong personal faith and alignment with the core values and mission of Northside (C3 Faithfulness as outlined below).
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to both students and their families.
- Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage students, staff and volunteers effectively.
- Strong biblical teaching and communication skills with the ability to engage, inspire, and connect with all students.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written with strong attention to detail and the ability to see the big picture.
- Proficient with Mac, Google Suite, Planning Center, Rock Database, Asana, Slack.
- Strategic thinker to develop an overall ministry strategy.
- Strategic and budget-conscious mindset, with the ability to help develop an annual ministry budget and manage resources effectively.
- Committed to growth in knowledge and maturity in this area of ministry and leadership.
- Passionate about reaching students who are unchurched or disengaged and helping them develop a life-changing relationship with Jesus.
- Ability to foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of background or life situation.
